Biography

Iacopo Schiavo carries on a multi-stylistic approach to the guitar. Within his style we will find the phrasing of jazz, the impact of flamenco, the articulations of oriental music and the rhythm of Latin American music in addition to a compositional style that echoes all these points and takes shape in his quartet “OutAut,” of which he is composer and guitarist. Passionate about folk music and ethnomusicology, he works steadily with musical realities of ethnic music such as the Compañia Jovenes of Flamenco dancer Loredana Ruggieri, Roman folk singer Lavinia Mancusi and the southern Italian music orchestra ‘Calabria Orchestra,’ with which he records a live album in 2020 and accompanies well-known artists from the Italian scene such as Morgan and Max Gazzé.

Since 2020 he has been a member of the Italian-Argentinian band SuRealistas, an octet of Latin American-inspired music that has four albums and numerous European tours to its credit. From the same year comes the album Acquamarina, the result of a duo collaboration with guitarist Paride Pignotti, and saxophonist Javier Girotto and bassist Marco Bruno as special guests. Iacopo is among the founders in 2022 of the quartet Stereoteismo, an ambitious project that delivers music with a jazz approach but with Balkan and Middle Eastern sonorities. The project is a winner of the AFAC (Arab Fund for Arts and Culture) award. Other collaborations include: Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio, Federica Fruscella, Sinedades, Mads Houe, Mishell Domenssain, Bobo Rondelli, Orchestra dei Braccianti, Max Gazzé, Perla Elias Nemer, Federico Pascucci, Takadum Orchestra, Orchestra Filarmonica della Calabria, Daniele Greco, Francesca Turchetti, Alessandro Sessa, Agapornis Duo, Luca Ciarla, VEMM, Mesudí, Bravo Baboon.
