Biography
With more than 500 works composed in over 50 albums as a leader, more than 150 albums with important musicians and thousands of concerts at every latitude, saxophonist Javier Girotto is undoubtedly one of the most accomplished Argentine musicians in the world. Born in Cordoba, he trained in Argentina and the United States, where he studied at the Berklee College of Music. Of Italian origins, he has lived in Rome since the 1990s, establishing himself in just a few years as one of the stars of the Italian music scene. His music is characterized by the rediscovery of his origins, by his profound knowledge of jazz and by the inevitable influence of the Italian and Mediterranean traditions. Since many years ago, Aires Tango, one of his most loved groups, has been an international point of reference for those who appreciate the European evolution of Tango.
In his career he has played with Enrico Rava, Ralph Towner, Rita Marcotulli, Bob Mintzer, Randy Brecker, Danilo Perez, Gary Burton, Antonello Salis, Kenny Wheeler, Jeff Ballard, Avishai Cohen, Paul mc Candless, Paolo Fresu, Miroslav Vitous, Michele Campanella, Wdr Big Band Koeln Germany, Orchestra Jazz Concertgebouw Amsterdam Holland and Alexander Balanescu, and many, many more. He has collaborated with actors and writers such as Ivano Marescotti, Lella Costa, Arnoldo Foà, Valerio Mastrandrea, Leo Gullotta, Salman Rushdi, Tony Servillo, Peppe Servillo, Neri Marcorè, Samuele Bersani, Giuliana de Sio, Davide Riondino, Fabrizio Gifuni and many others. He has performed at major national and international festivals, including Umbria Jazz and the Buenos Aires Jazz Festival, and at important radio and television stations worldwide. “Javier Girotto is a tireless creative musician. In his career he has been the main actor of extraordinary musical endeavours such as the album Tango Nuevo Revisited (Act), which celebrates the synergy between tango and jazz.” Luigi Onori, Il Manifesto
